What Was It Like To "DISCOVER AMERICA"
As A Newly Arrived Immigrant?

Our ESOL students come from many different countries and had to learn about new customs and a new language. They decided to explore and share the story of the first arrivals, here, from their country and how they overcame obstacles and achieved wonderful accomplishments. The students researched these pioneers' critical problems and answered the question: How has the quality of life in the United States been improved by the arrival and personal contributions of their country people?

The students began their research with a brainstorming session using Inspiration. They created personal PowerPoint presentations of America's new arrivals and included their own personal experiences and observations. Along with inspiring and touching photos and quotes from their historical research , students included their own narratives with photo stories.
